Saboteurs – and my journey of self-study.

I’m always guiding my clients to a better relationship with their mind… but that means I also have to invest in myself. I can’t expect you guys to work with me if I don’t put in the work either!

That’s why I’m excited to be on continued learning journey with Shiraz Chamine of Positive Intelligence. I’ll be depending my learning on Saboteurs and how we can learn to notice them, and watch out for their influences in our daily lives.

We’ve all heard of self sabotage… it’s when we actively or passively taker steps to prevent ourselves from success and reaching our goals. It’s commonly associated with weight loss, but can creep into everything.  Our friendships, family life, careers.

That’s why I felt it was important, and interesting to embark on this course. I cannot wait to get my teeth into this,  discover my own saboteurs and help my wonderful clients to work to their goals with greater success, negotiating the minefield of our own minds.

Your mind should be your best friend, but it will find ways to work against us and be once our own worst enemy.  Imposter Syndrome, Self Doubt, Sabotage! I’m excited to find out what’s truly holding my coaching clients back,  how can we use that energy and re-channel that negative thoughts and automated mental patterns into positive outcomes.

Did you know you have more than one saboteur living rent-free in your head?

First, there’s the big one. The Master. The one you hear the most, universal across everything we do. they beat you up over silly conversations or mistakes, wake you up with worries in the night … they’re the protagonist in your life story.  The arch-enemy, the one who brings the following minions into play…

The villain’s minions…

The Avoider

Loves a bit of toxic-positivity (yep you can be TOO positive), avoids conflict, difficult tasks and anything unpleasant – loves comfort.

The Controller

Needs to take charge, be in control… highly anxious when things aren’t going their way and they cannot control a situation.

Hyper-achiever

Needs to constantly see results, if it isn’t working, it isn’t good. Constantly needs validation and constant success and achievement – despite the fact you’re probably achieving a lot!

Hyper-rational

Rationalises everything, can seem arrogant or uncaring… everything has to be justified.

Hyper-vigilant

More anxiety – just what we need! Always worrying about what could  go wrong…

People Pleaser

Always needs acceptance, doesn’t want to annoy or be a burden to anyone. This is a sure fire way to burn out and not take care of your own needs – parents out there will know ALL about this!

Restless

Like the hyper-achiever, constantly on the go… needs to be busy, doing something… cannot take a moment, relax or rest.

The Perfectionist

Perfectionism… Spends WAY too much time thinking everything needs to be perfect.  Quite often this means a lot of things don’t get done.

The Victim

Emotional, temperamental – needs attention. Everything is perceived as a drama, loves to be a bit of martyr.

Varvara Coaching Self Study, Saboteurs and Mental Fitness

These traits don’t come easily, they’re gradually built up through out lives.  From things someone says, events and habits… while our brain is growing these become ingrained and they’re hard to shift!

With the Positive Intelligence Training I’ll be placed to do exactly that!  Recognise your internal saboteurs, what’s ACTUALLY stopping you achieving the amazing life you deserve. I’ll be working in a tight-knit pod with other coaches to recognise my own saboteurs, holding each other accountable – much like I do with my own clients.  We’ll be using a system called PQ Reps (repetitions) exercises for the mind to help us with mental training, building mental muscle. Similar to mindfulness or tactile mindfulness that I currently use, but more focussed on sticking to your PQ Reps, a training program for building up your wisdom.. which goes perfectly hand-in-hand with yoga!

Remember, We ALL have these saboteurs, I’m not here to dig in to your past, like counselling would… but I’m here to recognise them and help you work around the roadblocks in your life. Remember everyone is the same, we all have stuff going on, we all have these saboteurs and we can all work past them together.
